AdventureX has another amazing line-up this year. If you’re a Kickstarter backer who chose the Guest List reward, your entry will be guaranteed until 12 o’ clock. So please plan ahead and make sure you collect your wristbands on time. (Any wristbands left after midday will be added to the free entry pile.) If you’re not on the Guest List, you can turn up on the day for free entry. Spaces are limited, so make sure to arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Saturday 11th November

10:00 – Doors open to the public

10:30 – Welcome to AdventureX

We open up the conference, then take you on a whirlwind tour of fire safety tips, information about the event and details about the after-show pub.

10:45-11:15 – Dave Gilbert | Talk | Getting Your Game in Focus

Dave Gilbert (Wadjet Eye Games, The Blackwell Series, Unavowed) opens the conference with a talk about the importance of giving your game a specific scope and focus. Dave will draw upon his experience as an indie developer and publisher, and tell us more about his latest game Unavowed.

11:15-11:45 – Jess Haskins | Talk | The Politics of Worldbuilding

All art is political, whether or not you intend to “make a statement.” If you don’t create with a clearly articulated perspective in mind, your work is likely to reinforce a host of tropes and implicit assumptions you hadn’t even considered. Especially when you set out to build an entire world!

Jess Haskins asks, what values does your world embody? What culture does it create? Who is it for?

12:15-1:15 – The Art of Game Acting | Panel

Dave Gilbert chairs a panel with voice actors Doug Cockle (The Witcher), Samantha Béart (Age of Wonders III), Rolf Saxon (Broken Sword) & Sally Beaumont (Bertram Fiddle). We explore the art of voice acting for games; what challenges do actors face when performing in this medium?

2:00-2:30 – Fireside Chat | Rolf Saxon

Join writer Richard Cobbett by a cosy virtual fireplace for a chat with actor Rolf Saxon. Rolf’s career has spanned games, TV, film and theatre. So grab those virtual marshmallows, stop showing random inventory items to passersby and meet the voice behind Broken Sword’s George Stobbart.

2:30-3:00 – Jade Leamcharaskul | Talk | Audio Narrative: Telling Stories without Words

Game Composer Jade Leamcharaskul (Dragon Fin Soup) looks at how game audio works with story design to create a more impactful and immersive narrative. Focusing on horror games, this talk also dips into science, psychology & cinema.

3:15-3:45 – Rebecca Harwick | Talk | What Makes a Great Video Game Protagonist?

Rebecca Harwick   (StarWars: The Old Republic, The Elder Scrolls Online) a game writer with over a decade of experience, takes us through the pivotal decision made when choosing your game’s protagonist. Your protagonist is the lens through which the player not only views your world, but expresses themselves in it. How can you breathe life into a character without stepping on the player’s freedom?

3:45-4:15 – Fireside Chat | Doug Cockle

Developer Lany Berry leads a fireside chat with Golden Joystick Award-winning actor Doug Cockle. Doug’s work includes voicing Geralt of Rivia (The Witcher Series,) and Nathaniel Bonnet (Book of Unwritten Tales 1 & 2). Join us as we take the time to explore Doug’s career.

4:30-5:15 – MMORPG Show | Entertainment Feature

“A crowd gathers, no doubt they hear I seek a champion…”

From Knightmare Live creator Paul Flannery comes the award-winning The MMORPG show. The show that combines improvised comedy with table top gaming brings adventure and absurdity to AdventureX 2017.

For every choice a consequence. Success is decided by a large D20…

Will you be victorious? Will you bring harmony to the kingdom or will you betray your new friends for personal glory?

5:30 – The Pub

photo-1462664450306-25ad625a342bTo be  honest, I suspect that’s why most of you are here. It’s certainly why I am. Once the talks and events have finished please join us as the pub. We have a space booked at The Rose Pub which is five minutes from the venue.
