Saturday 19th November

10:00 – Doors open to the public

10:30 – Welcome to AdventureX

Join us to get a taste of the day ahead, learn important health and safety facts and find out where the pub is.

10:45-11:15 – Dave Gilbert | Talk | Instinct Versus Theory

Dave Gilbert (Wadjet Eye Games, The Blackwell Series, Unavowed) kicks off the event by discussing how having 10+ years of experience isn’t always a good thing.

11:15-11:45 – Will Barr | Talk | Her Majesty’s Spiffing Post Mortem

Finding attending AdventureX cheaper than visiting a therapist, Will Barr (Billy Goat Entertainment) returns to regale us with stories of funding and developing Her Majesty’s Spiffing. All whilst fighting feral wolves (possibly).

12:15-1:00 – Fireside chat with Rhianna Pratchett | Feature

Join us in toasting marshmallows over (stock footage of) a fire, as Richard Cobbett leads a fireside chat with acclaimed games writer Rhianna Pratchett. Rhianna has worked on a wide range of games including Rise of the Tomb Raider, Heavenly Sword, and Bioshock Infinite.

1:45-2:15 – Charles Cecil | Talk

After lunch we’re joined by adventure games legend Charles Cecil (Revolution Software, Broken Sword, Beneath a Steel Sky) as he returns to AdventureX for the first time since 2013.

3:00-3:30 – Richard Cobbett | Talk | The Art of Comedy in Games

kq5vga2cGames writer Richard Cobbett ( The Long Journey Home, Sunless Sea) explains why most comedy games aren’t funny, and the tricks that successful games use in order to make us both laugh and invest in characters. Richard will cover set-ups, timing, the difference between slapstick and sadism, and the importance of going beyond puns.

3:30-4:15 – Writing for Games | Panel

Rhianna Pratchett, Charles Cecil, Greg Buchanan (Paper Brexit, Paper Drumpf) and Jay Tholen (Dropsy, Hypnospace Outlaw) come together to discuss storytelling in games. How has game narrative evolved? Is writing for games really different from other mediums?

4:30-5:15 – Jollyboat | Entertainment Feature

Saturday closes with award-winning pirate comedy duo Jollyboat (***** Three Weeks). Currently touring their show Nerdplay, Ed and Tommy take on pirate pop songs and D&D tropes with their infectiously funny brand of musical comedy.

5:30 – The Pub

Every adventure needs a tavern. Once the talks are finished, it’s time to head over to the pub. We have a space booked at the Rose which is five minutes from the venue.

Don’t forget to bring your AdventureX wristband!
